Light & Wellness: Enel HQ and Peru's First WELL Certification

In an ambitious pursuit of excellence, the Enel HQ project in Peru set a groundbreaking goal: to achieve full marks in lighting-related criteria for WELL certification, a feat that was successfully accomplished. This certification, focused on the well-being of building users, aligns with Enel's strategy to create optimal work environments for its employees, underscoring the company's commitment to health and sustainability.

Objective and Achievement

The primary objective was to preserve the original design while meeting both international and local lighting standards. This meticulous approach ensured that the lighting not only enhanced the aesthetic and functional aspects of the workspace but also contributed significantly to the WELL certification's rigorous requirements.

Challenges and Solutions

Navigating through the complexities of finding suitable lighting brands and equipment to meet specific requirements, such as melanopic lux levels, glare control (UGR), and high color rendering indexes, was a formidable challenge. Additionally, integrating a control system that could trigger color temperature change scenes throughout the building to mimic the circadian cycle was paramount. The solution: an exclusive use of Lithonia luminaires coupled with an Acuity Controls system. This integration streamlined sensors and control systems within the luminaires, reducing equipment and wiring complexity, which in turn, minimized installation costs and simplified maintenance.

Impact and Outcome

Achieving full points in the lighting category not only met the client’s objectives but also set a new standard for lighting excellence in workspace design. The Enel HQ project stands as a beacon of how innovative lighting solutions can significantly enhance workplace wellness and productivity.

Luminicos' Role

Luminicos played a pivotal role in this project by providing value engineering for the original design, leading to significant savings in installation, maintenance, and control equipment. By offering an integrated solution from a single brand, we ensured superior control, easier maintenance, and considerable assembly savings. Our team validated and recalculated the lighting levels to comply with the required illumination standards and worked closely with the client and WELL certifiers to ensure the project's success. This project is not just a milestone for Luminicos but also for Peru, demonstrating the incredible potential of thoughtful, well-engineered lighting solutions in promoting health, well-being, and environmental sustainability in the workplace.
